Ali Razini

Position at the time of 1988 massacre: Head of the Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces; member of “Death Commission” in Tehran

Ali Razini was a judge of the Tehran Revolutionary Court from 1980 to 1981.

In 1981, he was transferred to the city of Bojnourd and soon after, he was again transferred to Mashhad where he personally sentenced hundreds of opposition supporters, primarily affiliated to the People’s Mojahedin (PMOI or MEK), to execution.

In late 1984, Razini was appointed as the Revolutionary Prosecutor of Tehran.

Between 1987 and 1993, Razini was the head of the Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces, and in this position, he issued stoning sentences for two armed forces personnel.

In the course of the 1988 massacre, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini assigned Razini on 24 July 1988 to “set up special courts to deal with war offences in all war zones and deal with offenders in accordance with Shari’a, disregarding rules and regulations that can be restrictive and troublesome”; and to “ensure that any act that may lead to the failure of the Islamic front is punished to death”.
