An appeal to the UN and international organizations
– Dr. Ranjana Kumari, Centre for Social Research – India – I write this letter to express my solidarity with Iranian human rights defenders to demand justice for victims of events in 1988 where over 30,000 political prisoners were massacred in Iran. This genocide has been described as the worst crime against humanity since World War II.
The cries of victims and their families were never heard and were in fact kept silent. Iranian human rights organizations have identified those responsible for these atrocities that have yet to face justice, and I support their efforts to bring responsible parties to account for their unspeakable actions.
I am writing, on behalf of all human rights and women’s defenders, to urge justice and to finally break this silence.
Many of the victims were 15 or 16 years of age at the time of original arrest and prosecution and horrendously, even pregnant women were executed. All were buried in unmarked mass graves.
The Iranian Resistance has renewed its call for the international prosecution of all perpetrators of the 1988 massacre and crime against humanity in Iran, who are still in power and hold important positions of authority. Therefore, I also urge Amnesty International to renew its similar call, as well as other international organizations such as the FIDH and Human Rights Watch.
In memory of all the fallen for freedom, all the 30,000 executed in the summer of 1988, I support Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s call for an inquiry on the massacre and ask the United Nations and UN Security Council to hold an inquiry and hope that the perpetrators will finally be brought to justice.
Anywhere where women are victims of violence and injustice, the CSR stands with them and today, the CSR remembers the steadfastness of all the women slain in 1988.
